So I am home once more, going out into the world to find what is new. But some of the things that I did on my mission I will never forget all of the times that we ran from dogs that wanted to play tag with their teeth. The time that someone threatened us off of their porch with a knife, but most of all the things that I will never forget is the people that I was able to teach and to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ as restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith.
I think that the Canada Winnipeg Mission is the best mission in the world. I have never been to a place that has so many different people and so many different religions all in one small city, and that was for all the cities in the mission. While I was there I had the chance to go and to serve in Saskatoon, SK.; Thompson, MB; and Winnipeg, MB. all of them where a new and different experience even down to the people that I meet. Every
day literally a new adventure.
Now missionary work is not just work and no play for me I had a lot of fun just taking pictures of some of the things that where around. The first picture is that of downtown Saskatoon looking over at it from our side of the river. I took this picture when I was just new out it was December of 2006, a few weeks latter the river that you see was frozen solid because of the blizzard that we had.
Now this picture you can tell just what it is, this was taken at every missionaries favorite spot, the corner of Portage Ave. and Main St. here the wind is constantly blowing from every possible direction that you could think of. It was funny some times you would come and take a look at the flags that they had in the intersection and they would all be waving in different directions at the same time.
I think that it was a lot of fun to be there in Winnipeg truthfully when I first got the call saying that I was going to be serving in the city of Winnipeg I thought for the longest time that I wouldn’t like it. Up till that point in my mission I had only served in the smaller cities (yes Saskatoon is considered a smaller city when compared to Winnipeg) so in a way I was frightened to death of thinking of being there. But after some time of being there things really started to settle in, and well I really started to like it a lot.
Now like I had said I had spent a lot of time in the smaller cities one of
which was out in the middle of nowhere north, the city was named Thompson after some guy that had founded the mine that was there and was the farthest north that any missionary would go in the mission traveling eight hours by car on the only road that has no turns or it just feels like that because you are going so far and everything looks the same as you are going. But that place was really one of my favorites you really didn’t have to worry much about many other missionaries bothering you because they next set was at least six to seven hours away and the city
there was the most wonderful little place that I have ever seen built literally in the middle of the bush (forest). The funniest thing that I think we saw was the waterfall that was just a little out of the city and I had the chance to see it in every season that they have there. Really in my opinion one of the best attractions that they have up there for people to come and see I myself could sit there for hours looking at it from all different angles and no matter how may times that we passed bye I would always pull over and park so that we
could hike the trail going down to the waterfall. Now you must be thinking of how crazy I must be for thinking that a waterfall was the best thing that was there well when you go for so long without seeing any elevation change whatsoever when you see one you take it in and you enjoy it because you may not know when you will have the chance to see the next one.
Well as for me I really enjoyed my mission, I just wish that I could have taken more pictures to remember it all by I have a lot and will try to get them all up as soon as I can.
